Suddenly summer!

Ok so there won't be any '5 days old'....
Today we had a professional photographer here to make new photos of Start & Donoso, it is such a beautiful landscape now, green with colourful flowers and my car showed 28 degrees at one point today! I am now crayfish-colour despite sunscreen 30+.... I was not made for the sun but I love it....There is still snow in the peaks and in the night the crickets are having concert, I am totally addicted to this sound, the smell of the pine, jarra (bushy sticky plant) and the nightingale. Today there is a also a full moon just to decorate a little more. No problem to comercialize Spain, just bring suntanlotion!
Tomorrow is client-day.
Javier had this one made today when we updated on our sales horses.

Training thursday

Training by hand thursday, terrible deep and slippy floor, deep is good but it was pavement underneath that made it slippery and he sat on his bum twice, I was so relieved when the phone rang and he had to stop.

Showday saturday! Floor was concrete, crap, Donut does not like hard floors, at all. Not good, he didn't want to move, he went steppy and stoppy. But the judges saw his qualities and his movement scores were good even so.

Our favourite judge, nr 3! The one who gave us many points!

I am the pale one in the right corner..

Excellent horses

Winner of our section Nero - spanish champion twice, it is clearly much pressure for the judges to have a double spanish champion in front of them, how can anyone beat him, it is like saying all the other judges were wrong. I was thinking he did not need more titles and that he could leave space for others. Multichampion Nazareno Nr 2 followed by a line of other famous champions.
Such flying-trots one after the other, awesome to see! Clearly much pressure for us.. There was a excellent level of horses of all ages and people were saying even better level than SICAB as all the important studfarms was here that did not come to SICAB.

After judge nr 2 'did us in' we had no chance to go on by the selected for the ridden test. The difference between 59 and 72 is clearly very confusing and we all tried to understand. The scores of this judge was always between 10-20 points below the others. One participant even had a difference of 23 points! He has to be respected but he is a new judge whilst the other two are old and experienced and have their criterias very clear. So we all decided to focus on the two coherent judges instead as they gave more understandable scores and reference.

In the ridden test we saw one horse that put his head straight up in the ceiling, the rider was not able to stop him for 20 metres to do the salute! It was so terrible it was funny, poor rider, I would be so embarrassed.
Reflextion on the general atmosphere; Breeders take the competitions seriously and they are competitive. However you notice the friendliness and you definitely cannot sense any kind of jealousy. The one who wins get respect and appreciation and is congratulated warmly. There is a cooperation, a very famous breeder asked us for a stud, he also asked his competitor breeder next to him, he told us about the pros and cons of his own stallion and did not pretend he was the best in any way even though this horse is a multichampion.
The stallion neibours were busy fighting and screaming but D liked the idea of a siesta, he is a very calm horse!
Sunday is a day open for public so we could not leave until 17.00 as there need to be horses for the people to see. A flamenco-woman came up when walking with Donoso, she asked if she could take a photo of her and him, it was very sweet, like he was some kind of famous person, she looked so proud when she posed by his side!

But my most emotional moment was when we were having lunch, a very old couple came up to us, they had dressed up to go to the feria but you could clearly see they were very poor, the woman had no teeth and had arthritis and the man were a tie that was probably 40 years old. They were so moved by Betty, totally overwhelmed, the man sat down and took her up in his arms (B doesn't normally let strangers pick her up but she must have sensed he was a kind man) and kissed her on the head, he was so touched he had tears in his eyes and just kept stroking and kissing her so lovingly. Me being a melancolic sensitive one this was all too much emotional so there I was crying too. It was so very beautiful, this little dog made these old people so happy. And upstairs everyone were busy getting their champion-titles to make them happy - what different worlds.
Waiting for his price, as always it is a long and tiring procedure, horses very well behaved.

Results!

                                 Judge 1           Judge 2         Judge 3            TOTAL

Composition;        67,6                59,2                   72                     66,3

Movements;           22                   17                      22                     20,3

Total;                      67,6                59,2                  72                     66,3

Prepared for the show, thank you Tomás!

Conclusion: We like very much judge nr 3! 72 is a very high score!

Movement score is especially important to us and 22 is very satisfying!

Reflection: Difference between score 59 and 72 in composition? There is also a big gap between 22 and 17 in movement...?

It was important to us to have Donoso judged here in Spain by the best judges. We humbly realize our limits to win a important championship like this one, but we have a great protocol showing the quality of our horse which is good for his curriculum and we are content!
You can see it on www.directopre.com

It is now!

Hello all, we have started! He is gorgeous but I have never so many good horses, incredible level of stallions, help! We have to be among the 15 best to ride, There are 34 in total, uff! I so much want to do the test! Cross your fingers please.

Thank You all, we are here, in the second floor of a enormous bulding, in fact it is so big you cannot see it! We unloaded and did not look down.. We have checked the level of horses and it is good - very very VERY good horses! The big yeguadas that turned SICAB down are here to do a come back, one has brought 13 horses - gulp! It will be fun!
Is there any question of what country we are from?...
On the way, not exactly spanish weather..

Finally!

I made it to Aranjuez where Donoso is busy doing his stallion-job. He has been excercised in the walker and on the lounge these last 1,5 week, unfortunately the trainer was not able to ride him as planned.

But it doesn't matter. I have also come to the conclusion that if someone is riding my horse, no matter how professional, I want to be there, after all I know my horse best. Also, I like to be able to say I have done the job myself, it is much more satisfying like that, I know it is a ego-thing but it is me & my horse and that's it!

Mirrors!

Dearest Donut, he was so very happy getting to work again, totally overambitious wanting to work out all his muscles at once, and mine. But in the end we did some passage as it came out naturally, he feels vey self-confident and proud!
